Technical Training Workshop - Two Days

This workshop is intended to give ISP technical staff, and others who may be involved in the actual operation of an IXP, the tools to do the job. There is a second, shorter workshop for non-technical policy and business decision-makers. The workshop is designed to run over two full days. The sessions are allocated as follows:

Day 1
Session 1: High level overview (2 hours)
Session 2: Cost-savings exercise (1.5 hours)
Session 3: Technical refresher exercises (3.5 hours)
Session 4: Technical aspects of peering (1 hour)

Day 2
Session 4: Technical aspects of peering (continued - 2.25 hours)
Session 5: Preparation for an IXP (1 hour)
Session 6: Business aspects of IXPs (0.75 hours)
Session 7: Policies for peering and IXPs (1.5-2 hours)
Session 8: Exercise and Wrap (1.5-2 hours)

The participant overview (pdf 52KB) provides a detailed outline of all the sessions.

Preparation

  1. Hosts should read through the hosting requirements (pdf 92KB) and ensure they are all met.
  2. Trainers should read through all the session material (see the attached checklist of documents) and make sure they feel confident to present it and answer questions.

Delivery

Trainers must complete a workshop materials evaluation form (doc 52KB) and participants must complete the workshop evaluation form (doc 101KB). If you have completed the workshop but had a chance, it's never too late!
